Around Lake Orion
Lake Orion started as a resort town. In that era, the Park Island amusement park was lit at night by strings of thousands of lights, until it closed in 1955. Today the name covers both the Village of Lake Orion and the much larger Orion Township around it.
The village's historic core, listed on the National Register in 2006, centers on Broadway and Flint Street, where brick one- and two-story commercial blocks are ringed by wood-frame houses built from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s.
